A woman has issued a dire warning to holidaymakers after a jellyfish sting left her hospitalised for a month. 

Zoe Cahill, 23, was stung while swimming 50 metres from the shore at Zen Beach at Ko Pha Ngan, an island in , in October.

The Queenslander said she felt as if her body was vibrating shortly before experiencing a pain similar to 'electricity' shooting through her body.

Ms Cahill fortunately made it back to shore before she collapsed and starting turning blue when she was quickly rushed to hospital. 

The sting from a box jellyfish can be incredibly painful and lead to paralysis, cardiac arrest and even death.

Ms Cahill said she remembered 15 people rushing to her aid and pouring vinegar over her stings, a known remedy that can partially neutralize a jellyfish's venom.

'I was crying I was screaming, I was just so confused as to what was happening,' Ms Cahill told . 

She was rushed between hospitals by speedboat before being sent to Ko Samui island to be treated by a marine toxin expert where she received antihistamine to help treat the stings.

The extent of her injuries left Ms Cahill with string-like marks across her body where the jellyfish's tentacles had coiled around her.

Photos of the injuries show some of the more affected areas had blown out into boils or scarred.

The injuries had also left her unable to walk for two weeks during her stay in hospital.

Some 15 people were stung by box jellyfish off the coast of Ko Pha Ngan between 1995 to 2015 with six dying from their injuries.

Some of the about 50 species of box jellyfish (pictured) are considered deadly if enough of the toxins enter the body and causing cardiac arrest.

Having since returned home from Thailand, Ms Cahill is now hoping to use her story to raise awareness about the dangers of jellyfish stings.

'I don't think many people are aware... I had no idea these types of jellyfish were so close to the island,' Ms Cahill said.

Six people, mostly children, received varying injuries from suspected jellyfish stings in the waters

in just four days last week.

The suspected culprit, Irukandji jellyfish, is one of the most venomous box jellyfish species despite being about the size of a five cent coin.

Northern waters from Bundaberg in Queensland to Geraldton in Western Australia are
