’s executive producer has explained what makes the series a “challenge” to make in comparison to other hit shows like .

The time travelling drama is currently in the middle of its seventh outing with the second half expected to drop in early 2024.

Filming concluded last year and now fans are eagerly awaiting its return, but executive producer Matthew Roberts gave an insight into an ongoing difficultly with the show.

He explained on the official podcast how its creators needed to ensure the show is balanced.

This is a problem that he believes shows such as don’t have an issue with.

While talking about season seven’s Where the Waters Meet, Roberts started “it is the small moments that make Outlander, Outlander.”

He continued: “We didn’t have room [for everything]. And that’s probably the ongoing major challenge of Outlander.

“Trying to fit all of this story in a finite amount of time.

“And you try to get in as much story as possible. Again, the balance of plot and character is big for us.”

Roberts continued: “Absolutely there are shows that are out there that can do all plot, procedurals are basically all plot, famously Law and Order which is nothing but plot.

“There is not a lot of character beats in Law and Order, great show, you can pop in anytime, you can watch any episode and it works.

“But for us, we need to balance plot that pushes the story forward and character which makes you want to care about the characters.”

What is good news is that both shows are soon to be making a comeback.

The second half of Outlander hasn’t had an official return date announced just yet but it will be back in early 2024.

This will be the penultimate season as Starz has already announced season eight is going to be its last.

Meanwhile, Law and Order SVU season 25 and season four are both returning for Thursday, January 18, on .

“I was so confused and insecure. Because I thought I was beautiful. So many people told me I was beautiful. Who am I? I feel like a vase shattered across the ground, and left there in the alleyway. A chandelier that was cut from the ceiling, and then all the people left the house. I can’t imagine on this day, what it would feel like to recover. Am I allowed to be this sad? Am I allowed to lay on the ground in a heap and wail? I want to have hands again, and legs. I want to smile. I want to believe that I can. But again, I want to be sad for the rest of time. I want to wear my sadness in long strands. I want to lay on the ocean floor and weep stalactites. For a hundred years. A tree has fallen onto my chest. The sky is spinning, and it won’t slow down. I don’t want to feel any of this.” A excerpt of an untitled essay from NIGHTBIRDE The NIGHTBIRDE book “Poems for the dark” should be available for presale soon.
