Benedict Cumberbatch weighs in on his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the success of . After debuting in his character's 2016 solo film, Cumberbatch has gone on to become a pivotal figure in the larger MCU. He's appeared in six movies and had an especially important role in 2021's , which introduces the multiverse in earnest. That concept is explored more in , as well as other versions of Strange teased in the animated series . Though the movie opens up a lot of possibilities for the MCU going forward, it also barely scratches the surface of what the multiverse has to offer.

Additionally, 

 sets up many potential storylines for Strange himself. For one, he develops the Third Eye, which could affect his power level when he's seen next. Strange also meets Clea (Charlize Theron), who tells him he caused an incursion and must fix it. Both of these things will likely play a role in Doctor Strange's MCU future and how it develops.

Considering  with a card stating "," it's likely Cumberbatch will reprise his role at some point. However, it's not clear if that will be in or another movie first. Since a full-blown sequel is likely several years away, it wouldn't be surprising if Strange were to pop up in another project first, similar to the way he did in .

Still, it seems likely will happen eventually, especially since Cumberbatch is excited about the idea.

It's also worth noting it would be a bit odd of Marvel to introduce Clea, an important character from the comics played by a high-profile actor, only for her to appear in a minimal role going forward. Instead, her relationship and mission with Strange will likely take center stage in , even if Cumberbatch appears in another MCU project first. Since sets Strange up to be a guiding figure in the wider franchise similar to Iron Man, it's good to hear Cumberbatch remains enthusiastic about the role after the events of .
