A rescue corgi wasted little time in playing a prank on his new owner's cat.
However, while his new feline sibling was far from amused, his human companion definitely saw the funny side, especially after the corgi flashed her a cartoonishly evil look worthy of a James Bond villain, in response to his antics.
Tiffany Hale from Austin, Texas, took to , posting under the handle @yallternatiff, to showcase the scene that greeted her involving her newly adopted corgi, Wayne, and her 8-year-old rescue cat, Patrick Swayze.
As Hale says in the video, somehow Wayne had "closed the cat in the kennel." Even now, she doesn't quite know how he did it. "I honestly don't know how he got him in there," Hale told . "I know he didn't chase him, so it must have been a casual follow, but once he was inside, Wayne did close the door."
Wayne had been a part of Hale's family for just 10 days prior to this. "I adopted him from a family that couldn't give him the care and exercise he needed," Hale said. "His favorite activities are wrestling with my other dog Garth (yes, Garth and Wayne, a total reference), tearing up toys and snuggling.
"
Patrick Swayze, meanwhile, has been with Hale for considerably longer. "I adopted him from Austin Pets Alive, a month before I adopted my first corgi, Garth," she said. "I really believe he thinks he's a dog because he is unfazed by any dog he meets."
Hale decided to share the footage of Wayne's dastardly deed to social media after showing it to several friends. "It was honestly so funny that I had to it to my friends, and they told me I had to post to TikTok because it was so good."
At the time of writing, the video titled "Wayne is up to no good" has been watched over 1.9 million times, with viewers similarly amused by the corgi's antics.
What really makes the clip special, however, is the "smirk" Hale spotted on Wayne's face as he turns to face her.
It is the look of a dog very pleased with what he has managed to pull off and, given what he's achieved, it is entirely justified; .
On first appearances, Wayne certainly appears to be playing up to the stereotype of , although it is important to note there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.
Research published in the journal in 2020 found cats and dogs not only get on well but also often play with each other. As part of the study, researchers quizzed 1,270 people who owned both a cat and a dog on their day-to-day habits.
They found that over 64 percent of the also played together, while almost two-thirds sometimes playfully "ambushed" one another.
While it may seem like Patrick Swayze is not happy, Hale said that, despite the shaky start, everyone is very much friends. "Both of my dogs love the cat," she added. "They can frequently be found in a cuddle puddle together."
Even so, Patrick Swayze might think twice about getting in the cage again when Wayne is around. After all, "nobody puts baby in the corner," especially not a corgi.
