Scotland have suffered a double blow on the eve of the upcoming Six Nations after Adam Hastings and Will Hurd were injured while on club duty.
Experienced Gloucester fly-half Hastings has been withdrawn from the 38-man squad due to a knee injury, while Leicester Tigers front-row Hurd injured his foot.
sustained his injury while playing for the Cherry and Whites in their Challenge Cup win over Castres at Kingsholm on Friday night.
A statement from Gloucester said: “Hastings will consult with a specialist later this week to understand the extent of the injury before continuing his rehabilitation with the Gloucester Rugby medical staff.
”
Hurd’s place in the squad will be taken by Northampton Saints tighthead prop Elliot Millar-Mills, who has been in fine form for his club this season and qualifies for Scotland through his Scottish mother.
Millar-Mills, who is 31 and weighs 121 kilograms, started his career with Stockport and Macclesfield, before heading to United Rugby Championship outfit Edinburgh.
In 2021, he moved to former Premiership club Wasps and made 21 club appearances for them in all competitions, before joining Northampton Saints at the start of this season.
Uncapped Millar-Mills will be aiming to follow in his sister Bridget’s footsteps, who has represented the Scotland women’s national team.
He joined the squad on Monday.
Edinburgh prop Javan Sebastian and Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Jamie Dobie will also participate in training sessions with the Scotland squad as they continue their recovery from injury.
