Though did many things right, it ended up wronging one of its key characters and failing to deliver the story he deserved. Though concluded in 2017 after eight seasons, it has seen a resurgence thanks to streaming.
With this resurgence, viewers are able to reflect upon what did well and what the show could have improved on.
Overall, the show continues to hold up, which is evident through its lasting popularity. However, here are a number of , including the show's mistreatment of one important character. This character was not given the respect of getting a storyline worthy of their journey, and it ultimately ended up doing a disservice.
While nearly all of the were able to contribute to the show in meaningful ways, Tyler Lockwood was one of the most interesting ones
. His redemption arc was exciting to watch, as he went from being a jerk to someone audiences could root for. Unfortunately, though, right when he was becoming an intriguing character who went beyond just the villian archtype, he was killed off the show.
This left this part of feeling incomplete and unsatisfying. Had it not been for this unfortunate premature end, Tyler could have become a character that ended a unique and captivating dimension to the show. At the very least, could have refrained from killing him off, so that he could make appearances throughout the rest of the show and give viewers glimpses into his continued growth.
After Tyler was killed off of , the show lost an element that it needed. It was interesting for viewers to have the chance to see someone stand up to Klaus and put him in his place. The other characters' perspectives tended to show Klaus as more of an antihero, when in reality that wasn't who he was. Tyler, on the other hand, was able to understand that Klaus was a villian, and his story helped to shed light on that fact.
