Game of Thrones Creators Address Potential Franchise Return and Jon Snow Sequel Series

showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff recently talked about the much rumored Jon Snow sequel series. They explained the importance of casting, and the possibility of coming back to the world of Westeros for further spinoffs of the hugely successful franchise.

In an interview with , the creators talked about their latest series, . The upcoming sci-fi drama is being made in collaboration with Netflix, and stars Eliza Gonzalez, John Bradley, Sea Shimooka, Benedict Wong, and Liam Cunningham; Bradley and Cunningham . Weiss and Benioff also spoke about the Jon Snow-centered project that HBO was – and may still be – producing.

Tom Ellis is reluctant to bring back Lucifer, but he reveals the two conditions that could make the show’s revival possible.

As early as that they were working on a sequel centered around the beloved Jon Snow. The project was set to star , as well as an executive producer. Since then there have been many updates – some positive, some not – about its development. Weiss and Benioff did not sign onto the project, as they felt that after the Season 8 series finale, "It was really important to move on and put Westeros behind us

When asked about their potential involvement in , down the line and after is done, the creators were hesitant. "It would be so great; nothing would make us happier than to work with our people from that show," Weiss said. "But there are a lot of other ways to make that happen that are fresh and exciting for everyone involved. Also, unless [Kit Harington] has been doing a lot of working out, that’s a really heavy cloak for a guy in his 40s to carry around — it’s like 60 pounds."

Redemption in GoT is about more than just making up for one's past mistakes.

The TV series was based on George R.R. Martin’s hugely successful novels, . Seasons 1-5 were closely based on Martin’s fantasy novels, Seasons 6, 7, and 8 were more liberally adapted and differed from Martin’s vision. In fact, Weiss and Benioff caught a lot of . "You always hope everyone’s going to love anything you do and it would’ve been great if 100 percent of people loved it, but they didn’t," Benioff said of Season 8. "You can get so bogged down in public opinion that you spend your whole life googling things and trying to find people who felt one way or the other way.

" When asked whether the two creators ever miss it, Benioff said, "Oh yeah. All the time."

has already spawned its first spin-off series with the prequel . The prequel followed the , 100 years before their conquest of the Seven Kingdoms, and nearly 200 years before the events of .
