This DIY tin can heater was originally intended for outdoor camping, but this is also a very effective way of keeping your house warm, which is why many are now using this heater indoors! This is also a great project to make using tin cans and an old cake pan, it is very inexpensive to build, and you can finish a piece of this within just a few minutes. You can also ask a friend or family member for help, but you can make this all on your own without a hassle.

Step 1
Take the churchkey and punch 6 holes in the top part of the can or the side that is uncut, then punch a hole at the very center using a nail, and add 6 holes all around the sides of the bottom of the can. Place the can on top of an upside-down cake pan making sure it’s centered, then mark around the rim of the can, and attach the hinge to the bottom side of the can.
Step 2
Prepare the shorter can and cut the metal strapping, then shape it for the handle, and fasten it on the opposite side of the hinge. Punch holes on the top of the soup can, then fasten the soup can and short can together as shown in the video, and insert it into the large can making sure the holes are aligned.
Step 3
Secure them together with a nail through the center hole at the top, then fasten it with lock washers and nuts. Install the can piece to the base and attach the hinge to the bottom of the cake pan, then place a sterno inside, and light it up.
