McCarthy's job security had come under question after the Cowboy's embarrassing in the first round of the playoffs.

The 60-year-old McCarthy is entering fifth and final year of his contract with no guarantee he will be remain in town for the 2025 season and is set to entire rare air for a head coach. 

Head coaches are often not allowed to entire the final or lame-duck year of their contracts due to fear of a lack of commitment from players who believe the coach will not be re-signed.

'I believe that the direction, the leadership, everything is in place,' McCarthy said. 'And I'm not very comfortable talking about myself, but I came here to win a championship.

During his official statement, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones highlighted McCarthy's regular season winning percentage and 'demonstrated postseason success,' although most of that came during his stint with the Packers.

McCarthy has a 42-25 regular season record with the Cowboys but has gone 1-3 throughout their playoff appearances. 

They have won the NFC East in each of the past two seasons and qualified for the playoffs three seasons in a row.

Jones and McCarthy had a three-hour meeting on Wednesday where they were said to have discussed a number of topics, although McCarthy noted he did not go into the meeting fearing his job status.

'I'll be honest with you: The only thing I worry about is my family,' McCarthy said. 'I'm extremely confident in who I am. I can't say that enough. 

'So, I'm confident in what we've done here, and I have great confidence where we're going.

'That's really how the meeting ended. And not only where we're going but we've got work to do. The job's not finished yet. And we both know that.'
