Other executive producers include Joel Edgerton and author Jessica Seinfeld, whose husband is comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

Washington spoke to on Saturday and revealed why she signed on to produce the project.

'A story like this that centers people that society often ignores — incarcerated fathers and young Black woman — that's so important to us,' she said.

The performer also spoke about the similarities shared by daughter and her show Unprisoned, which is centered on a woman reestablishing her relationship with her formerly incarcerated father.
