Glenn Maxwell has to 'own' his behaviour that led to a hospital stay in , according to Australian captain , as Cricket boss Nick Hockley confirmed he was trying to 'get to the bottom' of what happened.

While former Test captain suggested he was 'worried' about Maxwell, who fell unconscious after a drinking session last Friday night, Cummins, who was at the same venue as his World Cup-winning teammate on the night in question, dismissed concerns over player behaviour.

Maxwell was taken to hospital after friends and some Test players who were with him at The Gov to watch former fast bowler Brett Lee's band 'Six and Out' couldn't rouse him.

The superstar all-rounder had been in Adelaide for a golf promo before heading out for more drinks, with those close to Maxwell suggesting dehydration after a hot day played its part.

Cummins, who 'didn't cross paths' with Maxwell on the night, wasn't overly concerned amid accusations of a pattern of behaviour involving Maxwell, who also fell off the back of a golf cart during last year's World Cup in , missing a game through concussion.

'Potentially, I think only 'Maxy' can answer that one,' Cummins said when asked whether Maxwell had to address his decision making.

'I was there at The Gov for the concert but I left pretty early - I knew he was in town but I didn't cross paths with Maxy at all.

'We're all adults and part of being an adult is you make your own decisions.

'In terms of this incident, he wasn't on tour with Australia, he was over there for a private event, so he wasn't with the cricket team, so it is a little bit different, but absolutely, any decision you make you've got to own it and be comfortable with it.

'I think in terms of performance on the field you can't really ask for much more from how the players have performed, but also I think the way we've gone about it, the team has shown incredible discipline and I think they've made a lot of people proud with the way we've gone about it over the last couple of years.'

Maxwell was 'managed' out of the ODI squad that will face the West Indies next week, but Hockley said the two matters were not related and CA was trying to get further details about the incident.

'He was always due to be rested,' Hockley told 2GB on Tuesday.

'He's got some rehab that needs to be done around the one-day series, so that is unrelated.

As it relates to some of the reports, we're just getting to the bottom of this and it's too early to speculate.'

Despite not knowing the details of what happened, Clarke, a World Cup-winning teammate of Maxwell in 2015, said questions needed to be answered.

'To have to be put into an ambulance, that makes me nervous,' he said.

'With these sort of things, with off-field stuff. I like to go, 'Benefit of the doubt and innocent until proven guilty'.

'One thing I know, Cricket Australia will get to the bottom of it. These days there's cameras, there's people, so the truth will be told.

'The other thing we need to do is making sure he's OK. He didn't end up spending the night there (in hospital). I can't think of a time where I've had to call an ambulance or an ambulance had to be called for me, no matter how drunk I was.

'So I'm worried is there more to this and I just hope he's OK first and foremost.

'
