Cuomo sues Letitia James for documents to fight harassment claims

Former New York Governor is suing Attorney General Letitia James to force her to release 180 documents from the sexual harassment investigation that drove him out of office, claiming they will exonerate him as he fights the women's lawsuits.

Cuomo is being sued by two women who claimed he sexually harassed them while in office. Their lawsuits were born out of an investigation launched by James' office into Cuomo's alleged behavior, that ultimately prompted his resignation in 2021.

He has always insisted it was a political witch-hunt driven by James, a long term enemy, and that he did no wrong.

The allegations include claims from 11 women who say he groped, kissed and verbally harassed them.

Andrew Cuomo claims NY Attorney General Letitia James is deliberately withholding documents that would help clear his name in sexual harassment lawsuits

He apologized for any comments that he says may have been misunderstood, but has emphatically denied touching the women.

The former governor is now being sued by an anonymized New York State Trooper and Charlotte Bennett.

Bennett, a one-time aide, claims he harassed her by asking if she had ever been with an older man, and quizzing her about her experience of sexual assault.

The State Trooper claims he harassed her by running his fingers 'down the back of her neck to her spine' and asking her if he could kiss her after insisting that she join his security detail despite lacking the experience required for the role.

A third woman, former aide Brittany Commisso, was also contemplating filing a lawsuit late last year but is yet to lodge her complaint. She claims Cuomo touched her breast in the Governor's mansion.

Cuomo's attorneys filed paperwork with the New York Supreme Court this week

Cuomo's team says James has repeatedly denied to make public the transcripts of the interviews her team conducted with the women.

They have also rejected requests by The New York Daily News for the records to become public.

Cuomo and his attorneys say the papers will not only help exonerate him but also inform the public.

'Every single piece of information that has come out over the last two years has done nothing but undermine Tish James’ sham report and - after publicly stating that "evidence will be made available to the public", she’s done everything she can to hide these documents from taxpayers.

'This was a political hit job from the beginning to pave the way for Tish’s failed campaign for governor and it’s sad that the courts are needed to step in and order the state’s top lawyer to stop violating the law,' Cuomo's spokesman Rich Azzopardi told DailyMail.com.

The Attorney General has not yet responded.

The allegations were investigated by police but no charges were ever filed against Cuomo.

“I was so confused and insecure. Because I thought I was beautiful. So many people told me I was beautiful. Who am I? I feel like a vase shattered across the ground, and left there in the alleyway. A chandelier that was cut from the ceiling, and then all the people left the house. I can’t imagine on this day, what it would feel like to recover. Am I allowed to be this sad? Am I allowed to lay on the ground in a heap and wail? I want to have hands again, and legs. I want to smile. I want to believe that I can. But again, I want to be sad for the rest of time. I want to wear my sadness in long strands. I want to lay on the ocean floor and weep stalactites. For a hundred years. A tree has fallen onto my chest. The sky is spinning, and it won’t slow down. I don’t want to feel any of this.” A excerpt of an untitled essay from NIGHTBIRDE The NIGHTBIRDE book “Poems for the dark” should be available for presale soon.
