An American pilot was arrested at Airport after allegedly being found with a firearm.

Security conducted a search this morning and are said to have found a taser on the pilot's possession.

A 56-year-old man was arrested and charged with a firearms offence.

An eyewitness told Edinburgh Live that the man was taken away from security by 'four armed police'.

United Airlines confirmed one of its employees was removed from service and is cooperating with authorities.

The 9.25am flight to Newark, , was cancelled as a result.

United Airlines, said: 'This employee was immediately removed from service and we are fully cooperating with local authorities.'

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Following a security search at Edinburgh Airport on Saturday, 20 January, a 56-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a firearms offence.

'He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, 22 January, 2024.

'A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.'

The firearm discharges an electrical current to incapasitate individuals.

Usually, they are only permitted in Britain by bodies such as the police, not members of the public.
