Absolute legend of the parquet floors, Dennis Rodman still holds some completely insane records today. One of them has even been considered unbeatable for years… and yet, an active player could well do even better in 2023-24.

They say that one person’s misfortune sometimes makes another person’s happiness and this adage is particularly true in the NBA. Injuries to certain players can thus allow their teammates to showcase themselves more.

Andre Drummond is the perfect example for the Bulls, as he replaces Nikola Vucevic in the major five. And the least we can say is that the former Pistons pivot thrives on rebounding in particular:

We tend to forget him because his stints with the Lakers, Nets and Sixers made him a replacement, but the Big Penguin is perhaps the best rebounder we have seen in the 20th century. In just 15 minutes per match, he takes more than eight shots!

Suffice it to say that in the Windy City, he alone takes a large part of the team’s rebounds. Basketball Network even reveals that he started on an all-time basis:

Andre Drummond started on historic bases on the rebound

According to Basketball Reference, Drummond’s current rebounding percentage of 30.

1% is on pace to break the current record of 29.73%, set by Dennis Rodman , during the 1994-95 campaign.

This record is considered untouchable, with no player close to equaling it. Reggie Evans’ 26.67% during the 2012-2013 season is the second highest percentage in history.

Do we still need to explain what it means to break Rodzilla’s record, especially when we’re talking about rebounds? Because if many consider him the greatest picker of all time, it is not without reason.

The league’s best rebounder for seven (!) consecutive seasons, The Worm had no equal when it came to feeling ball trajectories.

This shows Drummond’s feat.

Obviously, this influence must be confirmed over time. And in this game, Chicago’s actions in the weeks to come could prove decisive. We know that the leaders could transfer Vucevic as well as other big players in order to rebuild.

Dede would then have the keys to the truck in the racket and when we see what he did with the little we gave him, it makes you salivate in anticipation.

Andre Drummond remains a rebound vacuum the likes of which we have rarely seen over the last twenty years. While he still replaces Nikola Vucevic in the Bulls’ major five, the pivot continues to blacken the stats sheet.

The fact that he started the season on the bench would only make his record even better, if he manages to dislodge Dennis Rodman.

“I was so confused and insecure. Because I thought I was beautiful. So many people told me I was beautiful. Who am I? I feel like a vase shattered across the ground, and left there in the alleyway. A chandelier that was cut from the ceiling, and then all the people left the house. I can’t imagine on this day, what it would feel like to recover. Am I allowed to be this sad? Am I allowed to lay on the ground in a heap and wail? I want to have hands again, and legs. I want to smile. I want to believe that I can. But again, I want to be sad for the rest of time. I want to wear my sadness in long strands. I want to lay on the ocean floor and weep stalactites. For a hundred years. A tree has fallen onto my chest. The sky is spinning, and it won’t slow down. I don’t want to feel any of this.” A excerpt of an untitled essay from NIGHTBIRDE The NIGHTBIRDE book “Poems for the dark” should be available for presale soon.
