The long-running procedural is nearing the end of its run.
Blue Bloods fans got some bad news last month when it was revealed that the CBS police procedural will end after 14 seasons next year. It immediately raises the question: what happens after Tom Selleck bids farewell to Commissioner Frank Reagan? According to a recent report, Selleck intends to go off the grid for an extended period of time.
Tom Selleck, 78, is among the big names who got their start on soap operas before starring in Magnum, P.I. and guest-starring on Friends, to name a few.
With 14 seasons of Blue Bloods on the way, reports that Selleck will be leaving the world of television after it concludes.
Here’s what we know so far.
What Will Tom Selleck Do After Blue Bloods..?
According to unnamed sources, Tom Selleck may retire from acting after Blue Bloods to spend more time with his wife of 36 years, Jillie Mack, on their avocado ranch in California. Selleck owns a 65-acre estate in California’s Thousand Oaks-Westlake Village area that was previously owned by Dean Martin.
According to sources, Selleck is looking forward to doing “all the outdoorsy things” he enjoys on the property, as well as spending more time with his family. Selleck and Mack have a 35-year-old daughter, Hannah, who is a successful equestrian.
Since the show’s inception in 2010, Blue Bloods has been shot on location in New York City, so after the series finale, Tom Selleck will be able to fully embrace his property and the lifestyle that comes with it without the constraints of a network TV production schedule.
According to reports, Selleck enjoys maintaining the property himself, including the “grunt work.”
While the report does not come from Selleck, the actor has previously left Hollywood, most notably after wrapping work on Magnum, P.I. in 1988.
Apparently, the actor decided to change his lifestyle because he was “tired” and “wanted a three-dimensional life” after working 90-hour weeks in TV and movies. After such a long run on Blue Bloods, which Selleck has previously described as “character-driven,” the actor certainly deserves a break and a change of scenery.
When Will Blue Bloods’ Final Season Premiere…?
In the midst of Tom Selleck’s rumored plans to return to California full-time, CBS has revealed when fans will say goodbye to Blue Bloods.
Following an extended hiatus from the series due to the WGA writers strike and SAG-AFTRA actors strike that lasted much of 2023, Season 14 will return on February 16, 2024, with the entire season airing in two parts, the second of which will air in the fall of 2024.
