She vowed to stay away from him for the sake of her marriage, but after months of silence between and Zac Goldsmith the pair are back in touch.

Singer Ms Goulding decided to 'block' communication with Lord Goldsmith, 49, back in September after reports suggesting their 'close friendship' had been unhelpful for her marriage to art dealer Caspar Jopling. 

Having been unfollowed by Ms Goulding on Instagram, Lord Goldsmith deleted a photo of a sculpture he'd made of Ellie captioned: 'Subjects I love.' 

A month later, he began dating actress Nathalie Kelley, and it came as a surprise to friends when the romance came to an abrupt end soon after Lord Goldsmith returned from Cop 28 in

, where he had seen Ms Goulding, 37. 

A source said: 'The romance with Nat suddenly fizzled out. She had been expecting to travel with Zac to Costa Rica over . Instead, Zac travelled with family and remained there until early January.'

Ms Goulding visited Costa Rica on a girls' trip at the same time – without her husband. 

Sources in Ms Goulding's camp say it was chance they were both there, adding that she didn't have time to catch up with the peer.

 However, another source was quick to point out: 'It's quite the coincidence.' 

Either way, speculation ripped through their circle of high-society friends, some of whom saw the pair catching up after attending a dinner in Dubai's Goals House restaurant on December 6, and others saw them at a market together. 

Last week Ms Goulding was back in London, having seemingly ended her trip around the same time as Lord Goldsmith, and attended a comedy night with her husband. 

Ms Goulding's management denied for much of last year that their marriage had stalled, insisting she and Lord Goldsmith had never spoken outside of the environmental work they do together. 

But eventually it was revealed Ms Goulding and Mr Jopling had separated for a spell.

When asked if Lord Goldsmith met with Ms Goulding in Costa Rica, a spokesman for Lord Goldsmith would only say: 'Zac enjoyed a private holiday with members of his family.' 

A spokesman for Ms Goulding declined to comment.
