creator Taylor Sheridan has just acquired the rights to adapt S.C. Gwynne's book as his upcoming project.

The historical book was first published in 2010, written by historian and journalist S.C. Gwynne. The book became a New York Times Bestseller and it was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. It accounts for the four-decade struggle between the Comanche tribe, one of America's most powerful tribes, and the white settlers trying to control the American West.
Quanah Parker was considered to be the tribe's greatest chief, and the book centers around the leader.
"I can’t think of anyone better qualified to bring to the screen than Taylor Sheridan," the author told Deadline. "He has a deep and nuanced understanding of both the myth and reality of the Old West. I am thrilled that he is undertaking this project."
So far, Sheridan has been showing a lot of interest in Native American stories, as well as high regard for Quanah. He has included the Quanah in the final episodes of and its second spin-off, , as well as other series he's done so far, and he will continue to do so in his next project.
became a huge success that spanned several spin-offs. The first of them were and , focusing on a different generation of the Dutton family, and planning the seed for what's to come in the original series. and didn't get Season 2, but has been delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that took place in 2023.
The two aren't the only projects in the universe, because there are more to come. The original series will come to an end after its upcoming second half of Season 5, but the franchise will live on.
There are at least three more spin-offs planned in the series. will be set in modern-day Texas; will continue the story of early generations of the Dutton family, as well as possibly touching upon World War II, and , the official sequel to .
On top of creating the universe, Sheridan's most popular movies include , and , but his main focus seems to be on television series at the moment. Taylor Sheridan has many other projects in development, as well as some returning series., starring MCU's Jeremy Renner, has been , as well as Sylvester Stallone's , which will return with season 2.
